Unmasked: Common misbleifs linked to the Christian faith
Unmasked: Common misbleifs linked to the Christian faith
This flyer is addressing some common misconceptions about beliefs that are thought to be christian but have no biblical foundation.
Did you know…?
That the biblical Sabbath, the day of rest that God asked to remember and to keep holy as part of the 10 Commandments is not the commonly kept Sunday but is actually Saturday.
The Sabbath was instigated by God already during creation where He rested on the 7th day. Jesus Christ during His life, as well as His apostles and the early church after His death and resurrection kept the Saturday as the day of rest. The change from Saturday to Sunday worship came as a result of the roman catholic church proclaiming to be above the Bible and displaying her authority by setting up her mark of authority in Sunday worship which is in direct conflict to God’s law: ”The Church is above the Bible; and this transference of Sabbath observance from Saturday to Sunday is proof positive of that fact.” (The Catholic Record of London, Ontario, Sept. 1, 1923). “Not the Creator of the Universe, in Genesis 2:1-3,-but the Catholic Church can claim the honor of having granted man a pause to his work every seven days.”(S. C. Mosna, Storia della Domenica, 1969, pp. 366-367).
Did you know…?
That all church altars, consecrated by the Roman Catholic Church, have to contain at least one relic of a saint (The Second Council of Nicaea).
This is in direct contradiction to the Bible where God proclaims that he is the God of the living (Mark 12:27). In the old testament, touching a dead person was considered to defile a person and make them unclean, thereby excluding them from the rest of society and religious celebrations for a period of purification (Numbers 19:11 +13).
Did you know…?
That talking to the dead is condemned by the Bible (Leviticus 20:6, Isaiah 8:19, 1 Chronicles 10:13) and that the state of the dead is described as a sleep (Matthew 9:24, Luke 8:52, John 11:11-14) and that the dead know nothing (Ecclesiastes 9:5).
The common believe that talking or praying to the dead (relatives or saints) is based on a false doctrine where the Roman Catholic Church proclaims that the dead go to heaven, purgatory or hell. As described above, the Bible says that the dead are sleeping and cannot be contacted or communicated with.
Did you know…?
That the forgiveness of sins can only be obtained through the acceptance of the blood of Jesus Christ and through no other means (Colossians 1:14, 1 Timothy 2:5).
It is not possible to have sins forgiven through any ritual, bought indulgence, the merit of saints, Mary, or any human agency. There is no other mediator between God the father and his creation than Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:5).
Did you know…?
That the Bible contains historically verifiable prophecies.
There are numerous prophecies about Jesus Christ in the bible that points towards his first and second coming and ministry. Besides of this, there are multiple, other historically verifiable prophecies that predict history before is happened. Here are just two examples of many fascinating, fulfilled prophecies:
Prophecy: There will be a king of Persia that will be called Cyrus and he will conquer Babylon by drying up the river Euphrates (Ca. 740 BC, Isaiah 44:27+28 and Isaiah 45:1).
Fulfillment: In ca. 540 BC, the Persian King Cyrus conquered the city of Babylon by diverting the river Euphrates and entering the city without resistance (Daniel 5:31, Daniel 6:28).
Prophecy: Jerusalem will be conquered by the Babylonians, which will be conquered by the Medo-Persians, which will be conquered by the Greek, which will be conquered by Rome and out of Rome would come 10 kingdoms (Daniel 2 ca. 600 BC).
Fulfillment:1) Jerusalem was conquered by the Babylonians (ca. 600 BC)
2) Babylon was conquered by the Medo-Persians (ca. 539 BC)
3) Medo-Persia was conquered by the Greek (ca. 450 BC)
4) The Greek were defeated by the Romans (ca. 146 BC)
5) Western Rome divided into 10 kingdoms (Alemanni, Franks, Burgundians, Suevi, Vandals, Visigoths, Anglo-Saxons, Ostrogoths, Lombards, and the Heruli; ca. 476 AD)
Did you know…?
That the Bible is identifying a religious system that will used by Satan to deceive and control the people and which will be at the root of the implementation of secular laws that will be the basis upon which God’s people will suffer immense persecution.
The Bible mentions 8 distinct characteristics of this earthly, religious system by which God’s people can recognise it:
Prophecy: This system:
1) Will rise among the 10 western Roman kingdoms (Daniel 7:8)
2) Will rise after the 10 western Roman kingdoms were established (Daniel 7:24)
3) Will be different from the 10 western Roman kingdoms
4) Will destroy three of the 10 western Roman kingdoms that came before it
5) Will speak great things against God
6) Will persecute the people of God
7) Will think to change times and law
8) Will rule for 1260 years
Explanation: 1) Will rise among the 10 western Roman kingdoms
Papal Rome rose among the 10 western Roman, European kingdoms (Alemanni, Franks, Burgundians, Suevi, Vandals, Visigoths, Anglo-Saxons, Ostrogoths, Lombards, and the Heruli).
2) Will rise after the 10 western Roman kingdoms were established
In 538 AD Vigilus ascended the Papal chair, whereas the 10 western Roman kingdoms were established ca. 476 AD.
3) Will be different from the 10 western Roman kingdoms
Different from the 10 western Roman kingdoms, which were political powers, Papal Rome is a religio-political power, ruled by a religious leader.
4) Will destroy three of the 10 western Roman kingdoms that came before it
Under Justinian I, Papal Rome destroyed the Heruli, Vandals and Ostrogoths kingdoms which did not accept the teachings and doctrines of Papal Rome.
5) Will speak great things
Two examples where Papal Rome authority over the teachings of the Bible and puts its earthly teachings above the teachings of the Bible:
a) Claim: “ The priest does really and truly forgive the sin in virtue of the power given to him by Christ.” (A complete catechism of the Catholic religion p.279 by Joseph Deharbe)
However, the Bible clearly says that only God can forgive sins means (Colossians 1:14, 1 Timothy 2:5, 1 Timothy 2:5).
b) Claim: “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Encyclical letters of Pope Leo XIII p. 304)
By this statement, Leo XIII assumes to be God on earth which in turn allows the Papacy to claim the infallible statements of the Pope ex-cathedra, the forgiveness of sins and the change of the 10 commandments.
6) Will persecute the people of God
History hath shown abundantly how the Roman Catholic Church has persecuted God’s people that did not accept the teachings and doctrines and position of Papal Rome:
“The church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind, will be questioned by no Protestant who has a competent knowledge of history.”(History of the rise and influence of the spirit of rationalism in Europe (vol. 2, p. 40-45 by W. E. H. Lecky)
7) Will think to change times and law
“The Pope has power to change times, to abrogate laws, and to dispense with all things, even the precepts of Christ.”
(Decretal De translat. Espiscop. Cap.) see also Ferrari’s Ecclesiastical Dictionary
Under this self-proclaimed authority, Papal Rome, as stated in the Catholic Catechism, deleted the 2nd commandment from God’s 10 commandments, shortened the 4th commandment from a total of 94 words to 8 words and divided the 10th commandment into two commandments in order to make up for the loss of the 2nd commandment and remain with a total of 10 commandments.
8) Will rule for 1260 years (Daniel 7:25)
In 1798 AD, under the power of Napolean in France, Berthier made his entrance into Rome, abolished the Papal government and established a secular one.” (The Encyclopedia America 1941 edition)
Following these, historic events, the rule of Papal Rome as a religio-political power existed from 538 AD to 1798 AD = 1260 years.
Interesting fact: What happened during the rule of Papal Rome as a religio-political power (538 AD – 1798 AD)? This is the period modern historians calls “The Dark Ages”.
Try and ask an AI Chat bot to identify this system that the Bible is describing, using only the prophetic information provided to see for yourself, that the anti-Christ system that is described can in fact only be the roman catholic church. This conclusion is very much in line with the conclusion that the great reformers like Martin Luther came to as well when comparing the prophetic clues to historic events.
