This text is dealing with the incredible significance of the Sabbath between God and His people as part of His role as our Creator and Saviour.
The Sabbath – God’s mark of authority
The special importance of the biblical Sabbath to distinguish between God’s and earthly authority
The incredible importance of the biblical Sabbath between God and His people can be seen over and over again in the Bible. The Sabbath is introduced by God as early as Genesis 2 when He rested from creation. God rested not because he was tired of the creation process, but because what he had created was “very good” (Genesis 1:31) and needed no further work. Since this point in time, God created the Sabbath not only for Him to rest with His creation, but foremost for His creation to rest in Him. To rest in the very good creation of an almighty, all-knowing and eternal God that created a world out of love for His creation. What would humanity be able to add that was missing? What would humanity be able to improve that was imperfect? Prior to the fall of humanity, the creation of God was in perfect harmony, without death, without want. Humanity had nothing else to do than to rest in the perfect creation of God, in His love and His will to sustain the life that He gave to every living thing. Of this, the Sabbath instigated in Eden is a symbol. A symbol that is there for humanity to remember their creator. To remember the character of their creator and the reason why God created humanity. Without remembering this important knowledge, humanity is doomed to stir away from God and forsake His precepts that are the basis for a harmonious and peaceful life with God and others.
Because of its great importance, God wrote the Sabbath commandment with His finger on the tables of stone to be engraved for eternity into the minds and hearts of the Israelites and through them into all humanity. The commandment reads: »Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: Buth the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, not thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.» (Exodus 20:8-11)
Throughout the history of the Israelites was this commandment kept and God used the journey of it’s people through the desert after their exodus from Egypt to remind them of the importance to keep it. The falling of mana from heaven was one of such important reminders where God provided the Israelites with food falling from heaven over 6 days. The mana that was collected on a specific day could only be eaten on that day and would perish the next. On the 6th day, however, a double portion of mana fell from heaven, sufficient for 2 days (the 6th day and the 7th day) and would not perish over night but could be eaten until the end of the 7th day. Thus, the Israelites rested the 7th day in the food collected on the 6th day which was provided by God.
Also Jesus during His time on earth kept without change the 7th day Sabbath during His life, His death and burial and after His resurrection. Jesus neither changed nor abolished the 4th commandment but, like for the other commandments, explained it in more detail that we might understand its whole significance and intended purpose. “Think not that I have come to destroy the law, or the prophets; I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”(Matthew 5:17) “For verily I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, until all be fulfilled.”(Matthew 5:18).
Many people think that because Christians learned of the Sabbath from the Jews, that the Sabbath is exclusively Jewish. However, as explained above, the Sabbath already existed in Eden, long before any Jewish religion was formed or even before the people of Israel existed. Since the Sabbath law is part of the creation, the Sabbath can be understood as an eternal, universal and never changing reminder of God’s creation. Also the 10 commandments were given to the Israelites but no one suggests that the 10 commandments are only binding for the Jews: “But if the Ten Commandments are binding for everyone, it's not clear why the Sabbath commandment should apply only to the Jews... Furthermore, the Sabbath is not only spoken of retrospectively with reference to the people of Israel or creation, but also in anticipation of the coming Kingdom of God. Of the inhabitants of the world to come, it is said, 'They will come to worship before me one Sabbath after another, says the Lord' (Isaiah 66:23)." Certainly, no one has known the Sabbath as a holiday for as long as the Jews. That's why it is immediately associated with them. When people have been concerned with something for more than 3,500 years, they understand a great deal about it. But nevertheless, we misunderstand the purpose and content of the Sabbath if we view it as a purely Jewish institution. The Sabbath is meant to be a blessing for all people!” (https://www.jetzt-ist-sabbat.de/der-sabbat/sabbat-oder-sonntag/229-der-sabbat-ein-juedisches-ueberbleibsel (Accessed 15.09.2025)).
To give a practical example for Christians: “Christmas has been celebrated in Germany for many centuries. Does that make Christmas a German holiday? Absolutely not, because it wasn't invented by Germans, and it's not celebrated only by them. The Sabbath is similar. It's older than Judaism, wasn't introduced by Jews, isn't exclusive to Jews, and is also celebrated by non-Jews. In other words, Jews have no more monopoly on the Sabbath than the Eskimos had over Easter. (https://www.jetzt-ist-sabbat.de/der-sabbat/sabbat-oder-sonntag/229-der-sabbat-ein-juedisches-ueberbleibsel (Accessed 15.09.2025)).
It is therefore not surprising, that after Jesus Christ’s resurrection and ascension to the Father, His disciples and the resulting churches also kept the 7th day Sabbath and so did remnant churches throughout the centuries. See https://www.sabbathtruth.com/sabbath-history/sabbath-through-the-centuries/id/1st-century#history for a detailed account on how the 7th day Sabbath was kept throughout the ages.
Why do most Christians then, if the Sabbath is not only a Jewish day to honour God and was actually kept by Christians throughout the centuries, worship on Sunday?
The below extract from the following website will give a good understanding of why Sunday is worshipped today, rather than the 7th day (Saturday)

How did the celebration of Sunday come about?
The Swiss daily newspaper "Berner Tagblatt" published the following interesting article in its weekend edition of March 6/7, 1971: "Anniversary around the world: 1650 years of Sunday" ... The venerable day of the sun, dedicated to the Roman Mithras cult, was designated a day of rest in the Roman Empire. It was no longer the seventh day of early Christianity, but rather the day of the Mithras cult that served as the inspiration for the christening of the 'Christian' holiday – Sunday."
What is the Mithras cult all about? Microsoft's "Encarta Professional" provides the following explanation: "The Mithras cult, one of the major religions of the Roman Empire, centered on the cult of Mithras, the ancient Persian god of light and wisdom. After the conquest of Assyria in the 7th century BC and Babylonia in the 6th century BC, Mithra was worshipped as a sun god. Greeks from Asia Minor contributed to the spread of the cult by equating Mithras with Helios, the Greek sun god... Christianity, especially Catholicism, has borrowed many basic features from the Mithras cult, such as... the use of holy water, the adoration of shepherds at Mithra's birth, the designation of Sunday and December 25th (Mithra's birthday) as holy days, as well as the belief in the immortality of the soul, the Last Judgment, and the resurrection.” The “Modernes Lexikon” (Modern Encyclopedia), published by Bertelsmann Verlag, notes on Mithras: “Savior deity of the later Persian mystery religion, which was spread by Roman legionaries far into Germania… Mithras was celebrated as the conqueror of darkness and therefore later equated with the sun god. His feast day was December 25th.”
Note: On March 7, 321, Sunday was declared a legal holiday by the Roman Emperor Constantine. Hauck's Realenzyklopädie (Real Encyclopedia) notes: “The first police Sunday law of 321 is not based on the Sabbath commandment, but on the requirement that the ‘DIES SOLIS’ be sanctified and firmly marked. The connection between the decree and the emperor's sun cult is unmistakable.”
How did the Sabbath come to be abandoned and Sunday become a church holiday?
Father Geiermann gives the following explanation in his Catechism of Catholic Doctrine: "The Catholic Church, by virtue of its divine mission, transferred the Sabbath to Sunday. Question: Which day is the Sabbath? Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath. Question: Why do we celebrate Sunday instead of Saturday? Answer: We celebrate Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred sanctity from Saturday to Sunday at the Council of Laodicea in 364 AD." We note: 43 years after the state introduced Sunday, the Roman Church finally adopted Sunday as a church day of rest at the Council of Laodicea.
Father Enright, the former head of the Redemptorist College in the USA, confirms this fact and simultaneously points to a sad development when he says: "It was the Holy Catholic Church that changed the day of rest from Saturday, the Sabbath, to Sunday. And not only did it compel everyone to observe Sunday, but at the Council of Laodicea, it pronounced an anathema on all those who persisted in observing the Lord's Sabbath and compelled everyone, under penalty of accusation, to perform everyday work on the seventh day."
The Catholic theologian and Cardinal Michael Faulhaber wrote in a Lenten pastoral letter dated February 26, 1950: "The Church has abolished the Sabbath, the last day of the week, as the Lord's Day, and has replaced the Sabbath with the first day of the week, Sunday."
With this statement, the Cardinal is in complete agreement with the Archbishop of Reggio, who declared at the Council of Trent in 1562: "The Sabbath, the most celebrated day in the law, passed into the Lord's Day. This and similar things did not cease at the preaching of Christ, but were superseded by the authority of the Church."
The Roman Church claims the right to alter God's law and introduce its own laws. Pope Nicholas III (1277-1280) declared: "I have the right and the power to change time and law and to release from their regulations." (published in the "Grenzboten," Pressburg, No. 23, Year 70, p. 452)
Cardinal Gibbons, in his book "The Faith of our Fathers" (p. 111), freely admits that there is no biblical evidence for Sunday observance. He wrote: "You can read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation...and nowhere will you find a single line that justifies the sanctification of Sunday. Scripture underpins the religious significance of Saturday, a day we Catholics never sanctify."
And John A. O'Brien, another Catholic theologian, says in his book "The Faith of Millions" on page 195:"I have read the Bible from the first verse of Genesis to the last of Revelation and have found no reference to the obligation of Sunday observance. The day the Bible mentions is not Sunday, the first day of the week, but Saturday, the last day of the week." "The Faith of Millions" p. 195
The question therefore is: Do I want to follow the word and commandment of Jesus and keep the Sabbath holy, or do I want to follow the instructions of an arbitrary and self-righteous church? Jesus makes it unmistakably clear how he feels about those who value human commandments above God's law. In Matthew 15:7-9 it is written: "You hypocritical hypocrites! How right Isaiah is when he writes of you: 'These people worship God with their lips, but their heart is not there. Their worship is worthless, because they pass off their human laws as God's commandments.'" Which judgment of Jesus should apply to you and your worship? Jesus said: "You are my friends if you do what I command you!" The Apostle John wrote: "Do not love this world, which does not want to know God... Only those who do the will of God will abide and live forever!" (1 John 2:15, 17) And in 1 John 2:3, 4, the apostle says: "If we keep God's commandments, we know God. If anyone says, 'I know God,' but does not keep his commandments, he is a liar; the truth is not found in him."
Henry T. Cafferata explains in his book "The Catechism Simply Explained" - p. 85: "God says, 'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.' That Sabbath was Saturday, not Sunday; but why, then, do we keep Sunday holy instead of Saturday? The Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to the observance of Sunday... Protestants who say they follow only the Bible, and the Bible alone, must feel truly embarrassed by keeping Sunday holy when God has clearly said, 'Keep the Sabbath day holy!' The word Sunday is not found anywhere in the Bible, and so, without knowing it, they are obeying the authority of the Catholic Church." "The Catechism Simply Explained" p. 85
Nowadays, this change of God’s law by the roman catholic church is hidden by a drastic shortening of the 4th commandment. The 4th commandment in many Bibles, as well as other accessible resources reads: “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.” However, crucial parts from the commandment are deleted through this shortening:
1. No mention is made as to how many days man should work.
2. No mention is made as to what day the Sabbath actually is.
3. No mention is made as to who it is that is commanding man to keep the Sabbath holy and what His authority is to be in a position to make such a commandment.
Taking these three crucial points out of the 4th commandment, leaves the door wide open to change the original message and who gave it.
Why is it so important to worship God on a specific day? Why can’t you chose a day of your liking (or follow a day prescribed by someone else)?
The problem is that by worshipping on different day than the 7th day, the authority of God is negated and His 4th commandment is broken. Instead of God’s authority, anyone who does not worship on the 7th day automatically assumes the authority of that system that is prescribing this other day and thereby placing this systems authority over the authority of God. It is this authority that will play a decisive part at the end of time when God’s people will be sealed through the Holy Spirit by God unto salvation and everlasting life.
The Sabbath as contained within the 4th commandment, is declared by God as His sign:” Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you’” (Exodus 31:13). The 7th day Sabbath is therefore a sign between God and His people and the Sabbath commandment a mark of His authority over His creation.
In Revelation, a different mark of authority is mentioned and that people will receive it in their foreheads or their right hands (Revelation 13:16). This mark is called the mark of the beast (Revelation 16:2). The Bible describes that those that receive the mark of the beast (through a conscious decision) by accepting the beast’s authority will suffer the last plagues (Revelation 16:2) and eternal destruction (Revelation 19:20). It is prophesised that at the time of the end, there will be a final conflict between the mark of authority of God and the mark of authority of a different system. It seems therefore, that it is of the greatest importance to understand what this mark of the beast is and why it is opposing the authority of God.
Since this text is talking about God’s 7th day Sabbath it is no surprise that the mark of the beast is linked to this Sabbath. This mark therefore has to contradict God’s claim to have given a day of rest to His creation, question His authority as the creator and replace His precepts and laws with a counterfeit. The Bible also calls this system that is implementing the mark of the best the anti-Christ which is clearly identified in the Bible:
The Bible is identifying a religious system that will be used by Satan to deceive and control the people. And that this system will be at the root of the implementation of secular laws that will be the basis upon which God’s people will suffer immense persecution.
The Bible mentions 8 distinct characteristics of this earthly, religious system by which God’s people can recognise it (Daniel 7: 24+25):
Prophecy: This system:
1) Will rise among the 10 western Roman kingdoms
2) Will rise after the 10 western Roman kingdoms are established
3) Will be different from the 10 western Roman kingdoms
4) Will destroy three of the 10 western Roman kingdoms that came before it
5) Will speak great things against God
6) Will persecute the people of God
7) Will change times and law
8) Will rule for 1260 years
Using these 8 requirements, all of the reformers have undoubtedly and unmistakenly identified this religious system of the anti-Christ as Papal Rome – the roman catholic church. Below are the fulfilments of the prophecy which over the span of centuries have predicted the appearance, acts and future of the roman catholic church.
Fulfilment:
1) Will rise among the 10 western Roman kingdoms
Papal Rome rose in Italy, among the 10 western Roman kingdoms (Alemanni, Franks, Burgundians, Suevi, Vandals, Visigoths, Anglo-Saxons, Ostrogoths, Lombards, and the Heruli).
2) Will rise after the 10 western Roman kingdoms were established
On March 29th 537 AD Vigilus ascended the Papal chair as the first pope, whereas the 10 western Roman kingdoms were established ca. 476 AD.
3) Will be different from the 10 western Roman kingdoms
Different from the 10 western Roman kingdoms, which were political powers, Papal Rome was a religio-political power, ruled by a religious leader.
4) Will destroy three of the 10 western Roman kingdoms that came before it
Under Justinian I, Papal Rome destroyed the Heruli, Vandals and Ostrogoths kingdoms which did not accept the teachings and doctrines of Papal Rome.
5) Will speak great things against God
Two examples of many where Papal Rome assumes authority over the teachings of the Bible and puts its earthly teachings above the teachings of the Bible:
a) Claim: “ The priest does really and truly forgive the sin in virtue of the power given to him by Christ.” (A complete catechism of the Catholic religion p.279 by Joseph Deharbe)
b) Claim: “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Encyclical letters of Pope Leo XIII p. 304)
The Bible clearly says that only God can forgive sins (Colossians 1:14, 1 Timothy 2:5, 1 Timothy 2:5). The statement, Leo XIII assumes to be God on earth which is in direct contradiction to the 1st commandment.
6) Will persecute the people of God
History hath shown abundantly how the roman catholic church has persecuted God’s people that did not accept the teachings, doctrines and positions of Papal Rome. The Inquisition, which lasted for 600 years, killed approximately 50 million, Bible believing Christians that did not want to follow the doctrines of the roman catholic church:
“The church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind…”(History of the rise and influence of the spirit of rationalism in Europe (vol. 2, p. 40-45 by W. E. H. Lecky)
7) Will change times and law
“The Pope has power to change times, to abrogate laws, and to dispense with all things, even the precepts of Christ.”(Decretal De translat. Espiscop. Cap. ; see also Ferrari’s Ecclesiastical Dictionary)
Under this self-proclaimed authority, Papal Rome, as stated in the Catholic Catechism, changed the 10 commandments as they were given by God: The 2nd commandment was deleted, the 4th commandment shortened from a total of 94 words to 8 words and the 10th commandment was divided into two separate commandments in order to make up for the loss of the 2nd commandment to remain with a total of 10 commandments.
8) Will rule for 1260 years (Daniel 7:25)
On February 10th 1798 AD, under the power of Napoleon in France, Louis-Alexandre Berthier made his entrance into Rome, abolished the Papal government (Pope Pius VI) and established a secular one.” (The Encyclopedia America 1941 edition)
Following these, historic events, the rule of Papal Rome as a religio-political power existed from March 29th 537 AD to February 10th 1798 AD = 1260 years (+318 days).
Interesting fact: What name does the period of the rule of Papal Rome as a religio-political power (538 AD – 1798 AD) have? The majority of this period is called “The Dark Ages”.
Not part of this prophecy, the Bible further explains that Papal Rome will recover from the dethronement as a religio-political power (in 1798) at the time of the end and will make all the world wonder after the beast (Revelation 13:3). Thus following the beast and it’s authority. What then is the mark of authority of the anti-Christ power as identified by the Bible:
Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change [Saturday Sabbath to Sunday] was her act... And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things” (H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons)
”The Church is above the Bible; and this transference of Sabbath observance from Saturday to Sunday is proof positive of that fact.” (The Catholic Record of London, Ontario, Sept. 1, 1923).
“Not the Creator of the Universe, in Genesis 2:1-3,-but the Catholic Church can claim the honor of having granted man a pause to his work every seven days.”(S. C. Mosna, Storia della Domenica, 1969, pp. 366-367).
Unfortunately, this error that was introduced by the roman catholic church has not staid in this religious system. The reformers, even though unmasking many errors and heresies of the roman catholic system, did not manage to part with this tradition. In fact, the slogan of the reformation was “sola scriptura” – The Bible and the Bible alone. As part of this, the reformers wanted to proof that the traditions and ceremonies as prescribed by the roman catholic church were not biblical but originated from a different source. It was this missing distancing of the reformers from the 1st day Sabbath (Sunday worship) that gave the roman catholic church the basis for its attack during the council of Trent (1545 -1563) where the catholic church reaffirmed the importance of Church tradition, papal authority, and called out Protestants for claiming sola scriptura (Scripture alone) while still observing Sunday as the Christian day of worship. By keeping Sunday which was a practice established by the Church’s tradition, not explicit in Scripture the reformations noble slogan was stained. As a result, the protestant movement was weakened and did not progress as it could have. Rather than correcting this mistake, today nearly all protestant denominations are keeping Sunday worship, rather than the biblical Sabbath. It is therefore evident, that error is taught not only in roman catholic churches, but also in from protestant pulpits without any biblical evidence to support it.
Considering these things, each one of us should seriously investigate themselves and their relationship to God. Are you sure that you are following the Word of God, or are you following a religious system with their precepts and traditions? If you worship on Sunday, take the Bible and read. Examine what you believe and if these things are according to the Bible. Because if they are not, then your believes are not based on the Word of God but based on human laws and traditions.
The time that we are living in
Why is this topic of particular importance right now? Because the events in this world bear all the signs that make it highly likely that the final prophecies described in the Bible will soon come true. And as part of these prophecies, the Biblical Sabbath and its observance play a central role, as described above.
God has given men prophecies throughout the old and the new testament. These prophecies were given to prepare believers for important events, help them to discern the times they are living in and as validation of the Bible as the word of God.
Prophecy in the Bible – Why should I trust it?
Since Bible prophecy is often related to important historic events, it is possible to verify these prophecies that are given in the Bible using historical records. Without failing, biblical prophecies have stood the test of time and the investigation of non-believing historians that found themselves faced with a historical record that confirms the predicted events. Biblical prophecy can cover short periods of time, but can also cover millennia. The longest biblical prophecy, for which dates can be extracted from historical records spans over 2300 years.
Biblical prophecy – The time of the end
God has given prophecies for believers to discern the times of the end. The time immediately before the second coming of Jesus Christ, the end of time. below some of these prophecies are explored, highlighting that the signs of the time of the end are all around us.
The beginning of the time of the end
A prophecy given in the book of Daniel is predicting the rise of Papal Rome and its reign from 538 AD to 1798 AD. The Bible is calling this period the “Time of Tribulation” during which Papal Rome persecuted the saints. Roughly 30 years prior to the pope being exiled by Napoleon’s general Berthier in 1798, this persecution had mostly subsided due to the work of the reformers like John Wyclif, Jan Huss, Martin Luther, John Calvin and John Knox and Ulrich Zwingli. Jesus’ disciples asked him what would be the signs of the end and Jesus answered them: ”Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” (Matthew 24:29). There is a clear succession of events in this prophecy which can be verified with historical events:
There will be tribulation: Persecution of Papal Rome between 538 and ca. 1768
Immediately after the tribulation there will be a great earthquake: On the 1st of November 1755, the Great Lisbon earthquake happened and shocks could be felt throughout Europe as far as Finland and in North Africa, and according to some sources even in Greenland and the Caribbean.
Then, the sun will be darkened: The dark day of May 19 1780 where at 10 am in the morning day turned dark in New England. Up to this date, astrologers have no explanation how this astronomical event was possible.
The moon will turn the colour of blood: In the evening of May 19th 1780, after the darkened day, the full moon that rose was blood coloured and did not give enough light, even though being a full moon, leaving the night black.
The stars will fall from heaven: On November 13th of 1833, eye witnesses recorded an unprecedented meteor shower that covered the whole sky and lasted for hours. Hundreds of thousands of meteors were seen, illuminating the sky.
After the fulfillment of these signs, the time of the end has come.
The same events, in the same sequence are written in Revelation 6:12+13 which links these signs not only to the time of the end, but also as a warning that the next heavenly event will be the second coming of Jesus Christ (Revelation 6:17).
What are the signs of the time of the end
The Bible gives further information about events that will take place during the time of the end. These signs, in contrast to the signs given to announce the time of the end (Matthew 24:29 and Revelation 6:12+13) are, however, not heavenly signs but signs that can be seen following worldly events.
Deception at the time of the end
As the most important sign of the time of the end, the Bible mentions that it will be a time of unprecedented deception (Luke 21:8, Matthew 24:4). Jesus Christ is particularly stressing that many false prophets will arise in these times and deceive many. Lies are universally present these days and we cannot trust anything and anyone anymore. Politicians lie to their peoples, the news agencies are used as propaganda tools to spread misinformation and suppress truth. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a grave reminder of the lies that we are told and the power of media and governments to suppress truth and force the population to accept a certain narrative. An even more powerful tool of deception is currently exploding into our lives. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the power to deceive humanity on a global, never seen before scale. AI can now generate text, speech, videos, images from a few instructions. Imitating voices and placing words into peoples' mouths that they have never spoken. With the rise of AI, the world has entered into the age of final deception.
The two world governing powers at the time of the end
The Bible is also putting great emphasis on the presence and actions of two beasts that are active during the end times (Revelation 13). The first of these beasts arose out of the sea and has been universally identified as Papal Rome. The second beast rose out from the earth and has been universally identified as The United States of America. The Bible therefore draws our attention to these two entities and their workings during the time of the end. Notably, the Bible mentions that these two beasts will unite and that the second beast will yield all of its power (political and militarily) to the first beast through a unification of church and state. Are we currently seeing a closer and closer relationship between the USA and the Papacy? Are top American politicians going on live TV with the cross as a mark for Lent on their foreheads? Is with the creation of the White House Faith Office by President Trump, a religious office sitting in the centre of power of the USA? Aren’t large percentages of Tumps senior staff, his cabinet, his vice president all confessing Catholics? Even though the USA is officially a protestant country, their top leaders are all following Papal Rome.
The implementation of secular law based on false roman catholic doctrine
The intimate relationship between the two beasts will result in the implementation of secular laws that will be passed by governments but which have at their heart corrupted doctrines of the roman catholic church. The Bible is, warning that the mark of a beast will be implemented which everyone will have to obey. This mark will be enforced through national laws, punishable by economic sanctions (Revelation 13:17). What is this mark of the beast? God has given His creation a sign/mark of His authority which is the 4th Commandment which is describing the Saturday Sabbath (Exodus 31:17). In contrast, the roman catholic church also talked about her sign/mark of authority by changing the Sabbath worship from Saturday to Sunday. (“Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change [Saturday Sabbath to Sunday] was her act... And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things” (H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons)). Since the roman catholic church is identified as the first beast and this beast has a sign/mark of its authority, the mark of the beast that the Bible is referring to in Revelation 13:17 has been identified as the false Sabbath on Sunday.
Looking at Project 2025, written by the Heritage Foundation, it seems to be the playbook for the Trump administration. Even though President Trump had distanced himself from it during the elections, a look at the executive orders that he passed is showing that one after the other recommendation/demand is fulfilled as they are listed. As part of Project 2025, the authors are stating that “God ordained the Sabbath as a day of rest” (Mandate for Leadership 2025, Heritage Foundation). When and how the Trump administration will address this point of Project 2025 is to be seen. (For some more explanation, it is recommended to watch the following on YouTube: The Second Siege, Can You Hear The Rumble of The Roman Chariots - Walter Veith & Martin Smith WUP223). It is therefore predicted by the Bible, that a law which obliges everyone to observe Sunday as a day of rest (corrupted teachings of the roman catholic church (first beast)) will be implemented and enforced (through the United States of America (the second beast)) and everyone that will follow this mark is taking the mark of the beast, therefore worshipping Satan rather than God.
Natural disasters
The Bible warns that natural disasters, famines, pestilence and earthquakes. Natural disasters have increased by a factor of five over the past 50 years (World Meteorological Organisation). Interestingly, the WMO lists the deadliest disasters as those resulting from draught (famine), being the first one named in the Bible. With Covid-19, even though (official) lethality was low, the world experienced a global pandemic (Pestilence) of a previously unprecedented scale.
What is the sign for the end of time, Christ’s second coming
Jesus describes Himself what the end of time will look like:” For as lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” (Matthew 24:27). Christ’s second coming will be universally visible to everyone. It is therefore impossible that Christ will be seen by certain people and not by others. There will be a great cosmic event. Anyone claiming to be Christ that is not fitting this criteria is a false Christ and has to be avoided. “And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.” (Mark 13:21+22).
The forces of evil are joining forces and consolidating. They are strengthening themselves for the final great crisis. Great changes are soon upon us in our world, and the final developments will be swift. (Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 9, p. 11)

Not doing servile work means that we should not do anything on the Sabbath that is related to our profession or other work by which we earn our living (Moses 20:8-11). Work should not dominate the Sabbath because it interferes with fellowship with God, to whom this day is meant to be dedicated. This is the principle: Anything that interferes with my fellowship with God is inappropriate on the Sabbath. The Bible provides several examples of this. On the Sabbath, things that are otherwise not bad should nevertheless be neglected because God wants to claim our full time and attention on this special day. How can this be put into practice?
The Day of Preparation
Lev. 23:32 The biblical day always begins at sunset (Gen. 1:5). From sunset to sunset is one day. Therefore, the Sabbath must begin at sunset on Friday and end at sunset on Saturday.
Luke 23:54-24:1 The day of preparation is the day before the Sabbath, Friday. On the day of preparation, Jesus died on the cross. On that day, the women bought and prepared essential oils for the anointing of the dead. But when the Sabbath began on Friday evening, they were "quiet according to the law" (v. 56). Only when the Sabbath was over on the first day of the week (beginning on Saturday evening) did they resume the activities interrupted by the Sabbath. God wants us to make our Sabbath preparations during the week. The week serves to prepare us for the climax of the week (Gen. 2:1-3). The preparations reach a climax on the "day of preparation" (Ex. 16:22-30). However, if the preparations are not finished by the time the Sabbath begins, we should still leave everything until the Sabbath is over, and not take anything from God's time that he has given us and use it for other things. In this way, we demonstrate how important fellowship with God on the Sabbath is to us and how much we look forward to welcoming the Lord as a guest in our home.
Misunderstood Sabbath Sanctification
Luke 13:10-17 The Jews at the time of Jesus had imposed many regulations on the Sabbath that were not in accordance with God's will. The Sabbath was categorized into a collection of rules, causing people to almost completely forget the true meaning of the Sabbath. Therefore, for them, the Sabbath was not a joy, but a burden. However, Jesus restored the Sabbath to its original meaning, for which he was denounced as a Sabbath-breaker (John 5:18).
This was a trick of Satan to make the Sabbath unpopular. In later Christianity, the Sabbath would then be declared a fast day (2nd to 4th centuries) in order to also take away the joy of the Sabbath and instead emphasize Sunday as a day of joy. This development began with the Pharisees' misunderstanding of the Sabbath at the time of Jesus. (Matthew 12:1-8)
Sugestions to keep the Sabbath holy
Luke 4:16 God created us humans as community beings. He knew that we need one another (Genesis 2:18). We go to church on the Sabbath to freely exchange ideas with like-minded people, but also to encounter God in the proclamation of the Word. Attending church will encourage us and give us strength and inspiration for the new week. Furthermore, it is good to spend time with friends and acquaintances.
Mark 1:21-22 The Sabbath is also a good opportunity to share God's Word with others. Be it during the sermon in church services or in other institutions (hospitals, nursing homes, or prisons, etc.). It is important that we pass on what we have learned; otherwise, after a short time, we feel like people who constantly eat but don't get any exercise.
Mark 1:23-28 The Sabbath also offers a good opportunity to do good. Jesus healed people on the Sabbath because he wanted to show that he was concerned about people's well-being, especially the salvation of their souls. We can use this day to visit sick friends and acquaintances and spend time with them. We can also visit people in hospitals, nursing homes, or orphanages and sing with them or offer them small gifts.
Matthew 12:1 Jesus explored nature with his disciples. One of the best things about the Sabbath is going for a hike or walk with the children after church. Teaching biblical principles through nature is particularly effective. When children and young people (and adults too, of course) spend a lot of time outdoors, they gain a clearer understanding of biblical truths. What better day would be than the one God has set aside for the whole family to explore nature together with God?
Mark 6:5 God made the Sabbath for mankind. God knew that we needed a special day of the week to rest from our work. It should be a day of joy and fellowship with God. A day on which we don't have to worry about everyday things. A day on which we can completely switch off and be completely open to what God wants to say to us. However, it is important to ask God for wisdom on how we can live this day so that it can truly be a blessing to us (Isaiah 58:13-14). If we keep the Sabbath as God intended, we will enjoy it. God doesn't give us a list, but he does give us principles to help us understand and keep the Sabbath correctly.
